If you’re brand new to Canva and wondering how to upload a picture into Canva, you’re in the right place!
In this post, I’ll walk you through three easy ways to get your pictures into Canva so you can start designing. I’ll keep it simple and clear, just like my YouTube video.
Let’s get started!

1. Upload Files Upload A Picture Into Canva
The first way is by uploading your picture straight from your computer.
Here’s how:
- Open Canva and go to your design or create a new one.
- On the left side, click “Uploads”.
- Click the purple “Upload Files” button.
- Open your Finder (on Mac) or File Explorer (on Windows).
- Find and select your picture, then click “Open.”
That’s it! Your picture will show up under “Uploads,” and you can insert it onto your design whenever you’re ready.
2. Drag and Drop to Upload Pictures into Canva
This is the quickest and easiest way if you already have your Finder window open!
Here’s how:
- Open Finder (Mac) or File Explorer (Windows) and find your picture.
- Open your Canva project in your browser.
- Click and drag the picture from your Finder window:
- You can drop it straight into the “Uploads” panel (left side).
- OR you can drag it directly onto your design — it will upload automatically!
👉 Tip: When you drag it onto the design, it’ll automatically place the picture onto the page. You can resize and move it as needed.
3. Upload Pictures into Canva from Google Drive, Facebook, and More
If your picture is stored online (like in Google Drive, Dropbox, Facebook, or Instagram), you can upload it without downloading it to your computer first.
Here’s how:
- Go to the Uploads section in Canva.
- Click on the three dots (“…”) next to the “Upload Files” button.
- You’ll see options like:
- Google Drive
- Dropbox
- Click the platform you want to connect.
- Follow the prompts to connect your account (if you haven’t already).
- Find the picture you want and click to upload it into Canva.
Now your online pictures will be available right inside Canva for you to use!
Final Tips
- Organize your uploads: You can create folders inside Canva if you have a lot of pictures.
- Delete old uploads: Keep your Canva tidy by deleting pictures you don’t need anymore.
- File types: Canva accepts most picture files, like JPG, PNG, and even some GIFs.
